21 People Were Shot at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas

An 18-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire in Robb Elementary School and killed 19 children and two adults.

The shooting happened in Uvalde, a primarily Latino community 85 miles west of the Mexican border. The police informed the suspect acted alone, and his motives remain unclear. Before the school shooting, Ramos shot his grandmother at home, but she survived and was taken in critical condition to a hospital. The man got the rifles on his 18th birthday and was killed after the massacre.

“That was the first thing he did on his 18th birthday,” Texas state senator Roland Gutierrez said. “He suggested the kids should watch out.”

Many lawmakers and public officials called for action on gun control legislation. President Joe Biden addressed the nation and referred to the need for  “common sense gun laws”. “When we passed the assault weapons ban — mass shootings went down. When the law expired — mass shootings tripled,” Biden shared on Twitter. President also asked to put flags at half-staff at governmental buildings.

Previously, a white man killed at least 10 Black people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. When the police arrived at the crime scene, the murderer was going to shoot himself, but he dropped the gun and surrendered.
